According to Slash, rock isn’t dead. It just might have stopped being born.
Slash will be performing at WZLX’s 29th Anniversary Concert, which is less than a month away!

While Slash just launched a new single with his band Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, he is still trying to fill the lead singer void in his band, Velvet Revolver.
You may remember how Velvet Revolver initially formed. The group’s main band has always been made up of ex-GNR bandmates Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, with a revolving lead singer.
The first round of lead singer auditions was captured in the VH1 documentary, “Inside Out: The Rise of Velvet Revolver.” Although Velvet Revolver showed interest in Scott Weiland during the filming of the documentary, he initially declined the invite due to the fact that he was still with Stone Temple Pilots. Once STP disbanded, Scott Weiland was in, and he stayed there until he relapsed hard in 2008.
Since 2008, Weiland has only joined Velvet Revolver on stage once, in a tribute to the late John O’Brien in 2012. After the one-off reunion, the estranged singer announced that he was back in the band, until Slash denied his statement. Ouch!
Slash has kept busy since Velvet Revolver got put on hold, with 3 solo studio albums under his belt and multiple tours featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. But it looks like Slash hasn’t lost focus on Velvet Revolver just yet.
He recently confirmed that Velvet Revolver is “not broken up; it’s sort of in a state of dormancy.” And it looks like it will stay dormant until Slash finds some fresh rock n’ roll blood.
When Blabbermouth asked Slash which vocalist he would choose if he could pick any singer, whether they were in an existing band or not, his answer was pretty depressing:
“I’ve done that already. There’s a lot of people that we tried out that we don’t talk about. The more that time passes, the less rock and roll singers there seems to be. Like, that style of just really, sort of, from-the-heart, guttural rock and roll. It seems to be just getting more and more glossed up. It seems like everybody’s… I mean, look at ‘American Idol’. And they do the rock-singer bit. I haven’t seen it in a long time, but I remember in the first few years it was around, and these singers just don’t sound like rock and roll singers. It’s hard to say exactly… It’s something that I’ll know it when I hear it.”
